>> If you purchased your woodstove used from a non-commercial source, have
you considered having it inspected to ensure the stove's design and
construction are safe and solid? Check the yellow pages to find a company
that services woodstoves.
>> Are you using your stove to heat your home on a regular basis? If yes,
be sure to clean the ashes from your stove every week and dispose of them
in a metal container with a lid that you store safely away from your home
and combustible materials.
>> When you use your stove, are you making sure it burns hot for 15-30
minutes each time you use it? This will help to keep creosote from
building up in your stove/chimney pipe.
>> Have you had your chimney inspected or cleaned lately? This is
important to do, especially if it's been a while since the chimney was last
used.
>> Are you aware that paper, trash, and charcoal should NEVER be burned in
a woodstove? Only use seasoned hardwoods and don't exceed the fuel
capacity of your stove.
Well, that's all for now -- best wishes for a SAFE and happy New Year!!
