Whatcom County Fire District #14 Updates!

As of May 1, 2009, Whatcom County Fire District #14 will have their first time ever district fire chief. The new position was offered to and accepted by Jerry DeBruin. Jerry was the fire chief of our Sumas Station since 2001. Jerry has been an active member for 23 years. We are excited to have Jerry represent us and look forward to his leadership skills.

Chief Jay VanMiddendorp will be a battalion chief at the Sumas Station.
Chief Frank Cain, Jr. will be the battalion chief at our Kendall Station.
Chief Joe Hemmerich will be the battalion chief at our Welcome Station.

Susanne Colyer has been appointed our new district Secretary/Finance Officer.

Mary Olson, who has done a fantastic job as our secretary/finance officer recently retired to spend more time with her family and hobbies. We thank her for the good work she did and wish her the best!

Whatcom County Fire District #14 recently acquired a new pumper/tender for the Kendall Station. It will replace a 1970’s tender that was refurbished into a tender in 1983.

David Moe, Sumas Station, is taking the EMT class at Whatcom Technical College.

Sumas recently had live burn house training for the district that was well attended. New members got first-hand practice wearing SCBA’s, pumping a truck, putting out fires, ventilating a building, doing search and rescue. We are grateful for the donation of a house to use for this valuable training.

Our fire district has been active in Capital Facilities Planning. The public was invited to see the presentation of our Capital Facilities plan at Kendall. It can be viewed on our website.
